January 9th, 2011

By Brandon Cook

“How do we learn? By taking action, analyzing our results and tweaking them until we get the results we’re after. The key is to be willing to change and try different approaches if you’re not getting the results you want.” -Vince DelMonte

My First Transformation:

Hardgainer Brandon weighing 130lbs.
After Brandon gained 30 lbs of muscle.
BEFORE
Weighing 130lbs
AFTER
Weighing 160lbs

As you may know when I first started weight training I weighed a measly 130lbs at 5 feet 11 inches tall. After years of getting nowhere, making tons of mistakes and failing over and over to achieve any significant results, let’s just say I was frustrated.  I began to wonder whether I should just give up on this dream of having an awesome body.

Luckily the internet was becoming increasingly popular and I began discovering new training information dedicated towards naturally skinny guys. Fellow ectomorphs like Anthony Ellis, Vince DelMonte, Jason Ferruggia and others had discovered the tried and true methods for weight training as an ectomorph.

In other words…  I found training programs that ACTUALLY work for hardgainers. Read the rest of this entry »

You Are Not Your Body Image

“What you perceive as a dense physical structure called the body, which is subject to disease, old age, and death, is not ultimately real – is not you. It is a misperception of your essential reality that is beyond birth and death.”Eckhart Tolle

Many ectomorphs and hardgainers would love to learn how to gain muscle; therefore being able to transform their bodies with their newfound knowledge. In fact, for many with a somewhat negative body image (myself included here) this has become a life long dream.

Some may even say an obsession…. but who cares what “they” say anyway.  ;)

What they don’t realize is that there is a deeper truth of bodybuilding, beyond the surface image that the sport portrays. Read the rest of this entry »

10 Tips for How to Gain Weight Fast

November 5th, 2010

By Brandon Cook

“We are all brainwashed to believe that you can get bigger and stronger and leaner in a very short time, with very little effort and even less dedication. But nothing could be further from the truth, my friends.” – Jason Ferruggia

Skinny Guy

If you want to gain weight fast and have made up your mind to transform your body once and for all, then you’re in luck.

Today, I’m going over the top 10 tips that I’m personally using to gain another twenty-thirty pounds of muscle. These tips may seem simple and that’s because they are. However, applying them to your life is definitely not easy.

If you want to gain muscle fast, then you need to make this your primary mission (at least for a little while.)

I used to weigh 130lbs at 5’11” tall and through training, persistence and hard work I’ve gotten my weight up to 165lbs. However, adding another 20-30 pounds of muscle would be pretty awesome. That’s why I’ve made that one of my prime missions in life.

This blog exists to keep me focused and accountable to that mission and so that I can share with you what I’m learning along the way.

So, if you’re ready to learn how to gain weight fast, then let’s do this! Read the rest of this entry »

How to Gain Weight the Healthy Way

October 27th, 2010

By Brandon Cook

Stan: “What’s that stuff?” Cartman: “Weight Gain 4000, it’s helping me bulk up.” Kyle: “Bulk up to what? Fat ass?” Stan: “Super fat ass?”

To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”
– Buddha

When most skinny guys decide that they want to bulk up and gain some weight, their first attempt often leads them to visiting a health food store in search of a good weight gainer product. This is often the first of many failed attempts!

Hey, I was THAT guy too… so don’t feel bad if you fell for the sleek, marketing ploys of the supplement companies. It’s very easy to fall prey to these vulchers who promise you the moon with false or exaggerated claims and distorted scientific studies backing the products. Read the rest of this entry »

“How can I gain muscle and lose fat at the same time?” That’s right up there with “How do I get six pack abs” as one of the most frequently asked fitness questions of all time. The problem is, when you ask it, you get all kinds of conflicting answers – even from experts who are supposed to know these things. So what’s the deal? Is it really possible to lose fat and build muscle simultaneously?

Short answer: Yes it’s possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.

Long answer: It’s difficult and it’s complicated, unless you really know what you’re doing. Allow me to explain….

First we have the issue of whether you really lose fat and gain muscle at the “same time.” Read the rest of this entry »

Caveman Diet: A Return to the Paleolithic Age

September 20th, 2010

By Brandon Cook

“The deviation of man from the state in which he was originally placed by nature seems to have proved to him a prolific source of diseases” ~ Edward Jenner

“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”
~ Thomas Edison

In this day and age humans are smarter and more intelligent than we’ve ever been in the past 200,000 years of our existence. As the dominant and sole survivors of the many hominid species that began emerging and evolving in Africa over 2 million years ago, humans today… Rule the Earth.

It was our very intelligence that eventually led us away from our caveman diet or primal diet and on to agricultural, animal husbandry and newer methods of feeding ourselves. With the current health crisis and dramatic rises in obesity, some may wonder if this was a good thing? Read the rest of this entry »

The Standard American Diet Will Kill You!

Standard American Diet

“Be careful about reading health books.  You may die of a misprint.”
~ Mark Twain

Growing up I ate the Standard American Diet, which forms the somewhat humorous (and at the same time depressing) acronym S.A.D. This consisted of sugary breakfast cereals, lunch meat sandwiches, gummy fruit snacks, spaghetti O’s, macaroni and cheese, lots of sweets and candies, potato chips, soda, ice cream, hamburgers, french fries, pizza, hot dogs and hot pockets and all the things “kids love!”

Maybe you can relate? Is this the diet you grew up on too or may still be eating? Read the rest of this entry »
